The Board


The Board of Athletic Training is created within the department and shall consist of nine members appointed by the Governor and Confirmed by the Senate. Five member of the board must be licensed athletic trainers. One member of the board must be a physician licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459. One member of the board must be a physician licensed under chapter 460. Two members of the board shall be consumer members, each of whom must be a resident of this state who has never worked as an athletic trainer, who has no financial interest in the practice of athletic training, and who has never been a licensed health care practitioner as defined in s. 456.001(4)

Organizational Structure of the Board

The Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance serves as the principle administrative support unit for the board. The board is supported by a full-time professional staff based in Tallahassee, and its regulatory functions are funded in full by fees paid by its licensees. Board members are appointed by the Governor and subject to confirmation by the Senate. All board members serve four-year terms. Despite the expiration of their term, board members can continue to serve until they have been replaced. Responsibilities: Administrative officer for the Board of Athletic Trainers, oversees licensing. Responsibilities also include implementation of new legislation, budget, setting up Board meetings, training of new Board members.

Responsibilities: Responsible for processing the Athletic Training Initial License applications. Works with CEBroker and continuing education providers for course approval. Maintains knowledge of statutes and rules related to the profession.
